Asfendiyarov Sanzhar Dzhafarovich (1930-1931)

S. D. Asfendiyarov was born in October 1889 in Tashkent in the family of a military translator. He studied at the Tashkent Real School. In 1912 he graduated from the Imperial Military Medical Academy. He served as a military doctor in 1913-1917.

 He was appointed People’s Commissar of Health of the Turkestan ASSR (1919- 1920), was People’s Commissar of Agriculture of the Turkestan ASSR (1920- 1921), was elected deputy chairman of the TURKTSIK.

In 1927-1928 he worked as director of the N.N. Narimanov Institute of Oriental Studies (Moscow). Then he worked as the director of the first university in Kazakhstan — the Pedagogical Institute, in 1930-1931 — director of the Kazakh State Medical Institute, in 1931-1933 — Deputy People’s Commissar of Education of the Kazakh ASSR, later — head of the history sector of the Scientific Research Institute of National Culture, first deputy chairman of the Kazakh base, and then the Kazakh branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

Dealing with historical issues, S.D. Asfendiyarov published works: «The causes of Islam» (1928), «Islam and nomadic economy» (1928), two volumes «The Past of Kazakhstan in sources and materials», «The history of Kazakhstan since ancient times» (1935), a textbook for Kazakh schools «Essays on history Kazakhs» (Kyzyl-Orda, 1935), the monograph «The National Liberation Uprising of 1916 in Kazakhstan» (1936), etc. In all his works, Asfendiyarov S.D. outlined the issues of the history of the people and the spiritual culture of the Kazakhs. For the first time, he gave a justification and assessment of the formation of Kazakh zhuzes, the history of their formation, linking this process with objective industrial relations and the ethnoculture of the Kazakh people. The scientist was able to reveal the features of the political structure, the specifics of centripetal and unifying trends in the formation of Kazakh zhuzes. In total, he has prepared 11 books and numerous articles in Russian, Kazakh and Uzbek.

S.D. Asfendiyarov was rehabilitated by the decision of the Supreme Court of the USSR dated May 26, 1958. One of the streets of Almaty has been named after S.D. Asfendiyarov since 1962.

Kasabulatov Isengali Kireevich (1931-1933)

Kasabulatov Isengali Kireevich (1931-1933)

He was born in November 1889 in the village of Antonovsky, Taipak district of West Kazakhstan region. He graduated from the medical Faculty of Saratov University in 1915 and returned to his homeland, worked as a doctor.

In 1920, he joined the ranks of the CPSU(b), engaged in administrative work: He was chairman of the revkom, head of the provincial health department, chairman of the Ural Provincial Union.

Since 1923, he was elected a member of the Board of the Kirpromburo, in 1924 he became head of the tax department of the People’s Commissariat of Finance. In 1927-1928, he was chairman of the Kazmedtorg. In 1929-1931, he was secretary of the Astrakhan City Committee of the CPSU (b).

From September 1931 to 1933 he was the director of the Kazakh State Medical Institute. He did a lot of organizational work, personally went to villages to conduct agitation among Kazakh youth: he invited them to enter a medical university.

During his years at KazGMI, he combined the position of director with work at the Department of Social Sciences, taught a course in political economy. In December 1931, I.K. Kasabulatov for the first time created the Council of the Medical Institute. Approves a comprehensive plan for the construction of a morphological building designed by architect A.I. Gagello (now the Department of Anatomy is here).

In 1937, I.K. Kasabulatov worked as the 2nd deputy manager of the Regional Office of Glavneft of the Kazakh SSR and was arrested on August 14, 1937. He died on February 26, 1938.

According to the decision of the Supreme Court of the USSR of December 7, 1957, Kasabulatov Isengali Kireevich was fully rehabilitated

Mukhambetova Harira Mukhambetovna (1933-1934)

Mukhambetova Harira Mukhambetovna was born on June 15, 1908 in the village of Mortuk in the Mortuk district of Aktobe region in a Kazakh family of artisans.

After the revolution, in 1925-1927, she worked as a member of the women’s councils for the elimination of illiteracy among the population. In the 1930-1931 academic year, Mukhambetova graduated from the one-year Higher Collective Farm School at the «Collective Farm Center» of the USSR (Moscow) and was appointed Deputy People’s Commissar of Agriculture of the Kazakh ASSR.

In November 1933, she was appointed director of KazGMI.  Upon assuming the post of rector, Mukhambetova H.M. began the construction of an educational building on Komsomolskaya Street, personally invited the first medical scientists to Kazakhstan, created conditions for the creative work of the intelligentsia. At the end of 1933, after the appointment of Mukhambetova H.M., the Medical Institute for the first time began to conduct research work on the bases of new clinical departments. Mukhambetova H.M. remained in the position of rector for one year — from 11/13/1933 to 12/31/1934.

By order of Mukhambetova H.M. in December 1933, a special committee for the korenization of the apparatus was established at the institute, and in 1934, for the first time, a graduate school was established at KSMI. In 1933-1934, she made great efforts to expand the educational base. The Institute received three additional buildings, and the departments began to be located at new addresses.

In January 1935, Mukhambetova Harira Mukhambetovna was appointed director of the Semipalatinsk Pedagogical Institute, then chairman of the Regional Plan, from 1953 to 1982 she worked in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kazakh SSR as an economist.

She was awarded the medal «For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War», certificates of honor, commendations, and prizes.

Zikeev Viktor Vasilyevich (1934—1943)

Surgeon, Doctor of Medical Sciences (1947), Professor (1948), Honored Physician of the Kazakh SSR (1945), Honored Scientist of the Kazakh SSR (1947). He graduated from the Medical Faculty of Moscow State University in 1919.

He defended his PhD thesis in 1946 on the topic: «Causalgia and its treatment.» In 1947, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: «Intracranial pressure in closed craniocerebral injuries.»

Author of 50 scientific papers on clinical and theoretical medicine. He has trained 18 candidates of medical sciences and 2 doctors of medical Sciences.

He was the head of the Department of Hospital Surgery of KazGMI (1934-1956). He was rector of KazGMI in 1934-1943, Deputy Minister of Health of the Kazakh SSR (1950-1952), Chief Surgeon of the Ministry of Health of the Kazakh SSR (1934-1949).

He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Badge of Honor (1940), medals, the badge «Excellent Health Worker» (1939), the badge «15 years of Kazakhstan» (1935).

Phthisiologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences (1944), Professor (1944), Honored Doctor of the Kazakh SSR (1943), Honored Scientist of the Kazakh SSR (1947). In 1925, he graduated from the Medical Faculty of the Don State University in Rostov-on-Don. He worked as a practical doctor, then studied at the graduate school of the North Caucasus Tuberculosis Institute (1929-1932). In 1933, the Board of the People’s Commissariat of Health of the RSFSR appointed him director of the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Tuberculosis in Alma-Ata, concurrently taught an associate professor’s course on tuberculosis at the Kazakh Medical Institute (1936-1943). In 1937, he defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences.

From 1943 to 1951 he was the director of the Kazakh State Medical Institute. In 1944, he defended his doctoral dissertation and was confirmed in the academic rank of professor. In subsequent years, he headed the Department of Tuberculosis of KazGMI (1944-1964), was Chairman of the Academic Council of the Ministry of Health of the Kazakh SSR. He has published more than 120 scientific papers, including 3 monographs. He has trained 3 doctors and 14 candidates of medical sciences.

He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, medals «For Labor Valor», «For Victory over Germany», «For valiant labor in the Second World War», the badge «Excellent Health Worker», Certificates of Honor of the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR.

Sidorov Semyon Mikhailovich (1954—1955)

Forensic physician, Doctor of Medical Sciences (1945), professor (1945), Honored Physician of the Kazakh SSR (1948), Honored Scientist of the Kazakh SSR (1960).   He graduated from the Medical Institute in Omsk in 1931.

In 1934 he defended his PhD thesis on the topic: «The effect of anemia on the rate of entry of muscular (cadaveric) rigor mortis.» In 1935, he was sent to Kazakhstan to organize the Department of Forensic Medicine at the Kazakh State Medical Institute. In 1945, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: «The study of human and animal hair in a forensic sense.» He was the head of the Department of Forensic Medicine of the ASMI from 1935 to 1976, in 1954-1955 he was the rector of KazGMI.

About 140 works on various issues of forensic medicine have been published, including a manual on forensic medicine. He has trained 26 candidates of medical sciences. He was the chief forensic medical expert of the Republic, chairman of the Scientific Society of Forensic Physicians of Kazakhstan.

He was awarded two orders of the Badge of Honor and medals: «50 years of the Soviet Prosecutor’s Office», «For excellent achievements in the work of the USSR Higher School», the badge «Excellent Health Worker».

Koryakin Ivan Sergeevich (1955—1960)

Hygienist, Doctor of Medical Sciences (1949), Professor (I960), Honored Scientist of the Kazakh SSR (1956).

He graduated from the Medical Faculty of Kazan State University in 1927. In 1944, he defended his PhD thesis on the topic «Greening of regional cities of Kazakhstan». In 1949, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic «Sanitary and epidemiological condition and justification of the improvement of cities in Kazakhstan.»Koryakin I.S. is the author of 160 scientific papers, including 4 monographs. He has trained 1 doctor and 21 candidates of medical sciences.

He worked at KazGMI since 1938, headed the Department of Communal Hygiene (1946-1948), the Department of General Hygiene (1948-1968), was deputy director for Scientific Work (1953-1955), from 1955 to 1960 he worked as director of KazGMI.

He worked as the executive editor of the journal «Healthcare of Kazakhstan» (1948-1955), a member of the editorial board of the journal «Hygiene and Sanitation».

He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the «Red Banner of Labor», the «Red Star», the «Badge of Honor», the medal «For Valiant Labor in the Second World War», Certificates of Honor of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR, the badge «Excellent Health Worker».

Roman Ivanovich Samarin (1969 – 1987)

Organizer of healthcare, Doctor of Medical Sciences (1960), Professor (1961), Honored Doctor of the Kazakh SSR (1957).

He graduated from the Kazakh State Medical Institute in 1941 and went to the front. He served as a junior military doctor in the 8th Guards Division of General Panfilov I.V. In 1942, he became a brigade doctor, then head of the sanitary service With units of the Soviet Army passed Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Austria.

He was demobilized with the rank of major in the medical service in 1946.  He worked as deputy head of the medical and Preventive Department of the Ministry of Health of the Kazakh SSR (1946-1947), at the same time he was enrolled in graduate school at the Department of Pharmacology of KazGMI (1946-1949). He defended his PhD thesis on the topic «On the pharmacology of cotton wool» (1949).In 1946-1950, simultaneously with teaching at the medical institute, he worked in the Central Committee of the KP(b) of Kazakhstan as head of the health sector, then head of the administrative department.

He was appointed head of the Department of Social Hygiene (1959-1987). He defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences on the topic «Essays on the development of healthcare in Kazakhstan» in 1960. He has trained 28 candidates and 3 doctors of medical sciences. He has published about 100 scientific papers, including the monograph «Essays on the history of healthcare in Kazakhstan». In 1960-1963 he was the rector of the ASMI. At the age of 73, Prof. R.I. Samarin retired.

Awards. The Order of the October Revolution (1971), the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree (1945), the Order of the Red Star (1945), the Order of the Badge of Honor (1957 and 1961). He was twice awarded the Diploma of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR (1957, 1974).

Karynbayev Sibugatulla Ryskalievich (1963 – 1975)

Anatomist, Candidate of Medical Sciences (1947), Professor, Honored Doctor of the Kazakh SSR (1950). In 1929, he entered the Astrakhan State Medical Institute named after A.V. Lunacharsky, graduated from the university on July 1, 1934. He became the first Kazakh postgraduate student at the Department of Anatomy of KazGMI. He graduated from graduate school in 1937 and was left at the department as an assistant.

In December 1939, he was mobilized into the ranks of the Red Army; as head of the regimental medical aid station of the Finnish People’s Army, he participated in the war against the White Finns on the Karelian Isthmus. In May 1942, he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army, served as commander of a medical company of a medical battalion on the Northwestern Front (1942-1943), senior doctor of a rifle regiment (1943-1944) on the Voronezh and Steppe fronts. Then, until the end of the war, he was on the I Ukrainian Front commander of a medical and sanitary battalion As part of the MSB, he passed Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Germany.

S.R. Karynbayev defended his PhD thesis on «Reactive changes of blood vessels in an experiment» in 1947 at the Scientific Council of the Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov (Leningrad). In August 1947, he became Deputy Minister of Health of the Kazakh SSR, then from May 1949 to May 1950 he was Minister of Health of the republic, from this position he left for the vacant position of associate professor of the Department of Anatomy of KAZMI.

During the years of development of the virgin lands of Kazakhstan, S.R. Karynbayev was again appointed minister. Under his leadership, in 1954-1965, the construction of a medical service in rural areas was launched, medical personnel were staffed, and powerful sanitary and preventive work was launched to prevent epidemic morbidity in virgin lands. Prof. Karynbayev S.R. was rector of KazGMI twice: 1952-1954 and 1965-1975, combining work with teaching and management of the department.

Awards: The Order of the Red Star (1943), the Order of the Patriotic War II degree (1944), the Order of the Patriotic War I degree (1945), medals for the capture and liberation of cities – Prague, Berlin. He received four commendations from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief I.V. Stalin for his participation in the battles during the Second World War and numerous medals. He was twice awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor (1954 and 1957), twice received the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1961 and 1966), was awarded the Order of Lenin (1971) and the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1980). He was awarded a Diploma of the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR. He was elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Maskeev Kuanysh Mubarakovich (1975-1986)

Phthisiologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences (1972), Professor (1974), Honored Scientist of Kazakhstan (1981). He graduated from the medical faculty of KazGMI in 1955.

From 1964 to 1975 he worked at the Alma-Ata Institute of Advanced Medical Training of the Ministry of Health of the USSR as an assistant, associate professor, head of the Department of Tuberculosis and vice—rector for Scientific work.

He defended his PhD thesis in 1967 and his doctoral thesis in 1972. Rector of the ASMI in 1975-1987. He was the head of the Department of Phthisiopulmonology of the ASMI (1975-1996), since 1996 – Professor of the department.

More than 150 scientific papers have been published, including monographs and textbooks. About 20 candidates and doctors of medical sciences have been trained under his leadership.

He was deputy Chairman of the Scientific and Medical Society of Phthisiologists of Kazakhstan, was a member of the All-Union Society of Phthisiologists, the All-Union Scientific and Medical Society of Pulmonologists and a member of the Problem Commission «Pulmonology» at the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences.

He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1981), the medal «For the Development of virgin and fallow lands» (1957), the badge «Excellent Health Worker» (1966), the Diploma of the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR (1982).

Belozerov Evgeny Stepanovich (1987-1995)

Infectious disease specialist, Doctor of Medical Sciences (1974), Professor (1975), Honored Scientist of the Kazakh SSR (1990). He graduated from the Sverdlovsk Medical Institute, Faculty of Pediatrics in 1961. He worked as a practical doctor, then studied at graduate school, in 1966 he defended his PhD thesis on the topic «Dynamics of trace elements in patients with infectious hepatitis», in 1974 — his doctoral dissertation on the topic: «Clinical, biochemical and histochemical parameters in patients with viral hepatitis and opisthorchiasis». As head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, he worked at the Tyumen Medical Institute (1972-1978), was vice-rector at the SSMI (1978-1983), then vice-rector at the Kursk Medical Institute (1983-1985).   More than 100 doctoral and PhD theses have been defended under his leadership. At ASMI he worked as rector of the Institute from 1985 to 1995, concurrently headed the Department of Infectious Diseases (1987-1995).   In total, he has published more than 300 scientific papers, including monographs and textbooks for students of medical institutes and manuals.

He was awarded the badge «Excellent Healthcare Worker», winner of the Al-Farabi Prize.

Talgat Ashirovich Muminov (1995-2008)

Phthisiologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences (1992), Professor (1994), Academician of HAH PK (2004). Graduated from ASMI (1976). From 1995 to 2008 — Rector of the Kazakh National Medical University named after S. D. Asfendiyarov, in 2004-2008 — Chairman of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences HAH PK. The main directions of scientific research: the study of the biochemical foundations of pathological processes in the connective tissue of the lungs of tuberculosis patients, individual gene-molecular aspects of the resistance of mycobacterium tuberculosis. The largest scientific achievements: the biochemical foundations of pathological processes in the connective tissue of the lungs of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis have been studied; a number of genetic and molecular aspects of the resistance of mycobacterium tuberculosis in Kazakhstan have been studied; a number of pathogenetic mechanisms of destruction of lung tissue and patterns of its regeneration in tuberculosis have been identified; immune and biochemical aspects of body protection in conditions of mycobacterial infection have been studied.

       Author of over 230 scientific papers, including 11 monographs, 2 textbooks, a 2-volume atlas «Differential diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis», Russian-Kazakh and English-Kazakh medical dictionaries.

He was awarded the Order of Kurmet and medals. Excellent student of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2000), Honorary Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2003).

Akanov Aikan Akanovich (2008-2016)

Organizer of healthcare, Doctor of Medical Sciences (1992), Professor (1994), Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan, «Excellent Student of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan», «Madeniyet kayratkeri».

He graduated from the Almaty State Medical Institute in 1974 with a degree in medicine. He worked as a general practitioner, head of the polyclinic of the Kegenskaya CRH of the Almaty region (1975-1978).

Since 1978, he began to engage in scientific activity at the KazNII Cardiology. In 1984 he graduated from the Almaty Institute of Foreign Languages. In 1986 he defended his PhD thesis, in 1992 he defended his doctoral thesis on the topic: «Epidemiology and prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases among the rural population of the Republic of Kazakhstan».

1994-1995 — Head of the Department of Science, Education and Medical Personnel of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 1996, he was transferred to the Office of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the position of Deputy head of the Department of Socio-cultural Development. In 1997 — Vice-Minister of Health, 1998-1999 — First Deputy Chairman of the Health Committee of the Ministry of Health, Education, Culture and Sports. In 1999-2001, he was the Director General of the National Center for the Formation of a Healthy Lifestyle. 2001 – Head of the Healthcare Sector of the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 2002-2004 — Director General of the National Center for Healthy Lifestyle Formation, 2004-2006 — First Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 2006-2007 — Director of the Research Institute of Public Health, 2007-2008 — Visiting professor at Nagasaki University (Japan), from April 2008 to 2016 — Rector of KazNMU named after S.D.Asfendiyarov, in 1996-2000 — WHO expert.

He is the author of about 400 scientific papers, including 82 monographs. He has trained 17 candidates and 15 doctors of medical sciences.

Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science and technology named after Al-Farabi.

Author of several dozen scientific articles, including in international medical publications, winner of a number of state and international prizes and grants, author of scientific papers in the field of medicine.

In 1992, he graduated from Tomsk State Medical University, Military Medical Faculty. After graduation, he was sent to serve in the village of G.T. Otar in / h 25717. From 1986 to 1988, he served in the ranks of the Armed Forces of the USSR.

From 1993 to 1997 he worked as an assistant at the Department of Pharmacology at KazSMU named after S.D. Asfendiyarov. From 1997 to 1998 he worked as a senior lecturer at this department.

In 1999, he defended his PhD thesis in the specialty 14.00.25. – Pharmacology, clinical pharmacology.

Since September 2000, he worked at the KMI at the Department of General and Clinical Pharmacology. Since September 2001, he has worked as an associate professor at the Department of General and Clinical Pharmacology of the CMU.

In 2005, he defended his doctoral dissertation on specialty 14.00.25. – Pharmacology, clinical pharmacology.

In 2006, the Committee for Supervision and Certification in the field of education and Science of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan awarded the title of professor.

From 2006-2009 he worked as Vice—rector for Clinical Work, organizational and economic work of the Almaty State Institute of Advanced Medical Training and Professor of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology.

Since 2009, he has worked as a deputy. Director of the Institute for Health Development.

From 2009 to 2011, he worked as a Managing Director at the National Medical Holding.

Since 2011, he has worked as the Director of the Department of Translational Medicine, Quality Longevity and Global Health, since 2015 he has worked as the head of the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Director of the Center for Life Sciences, Astana National Laboratory, Nazarbayev University.

Thus, Talgat Nurgozhin passed all the steps of the career ladder from a simple assistant of the department to the rector of the university.

On July 13, 2017, by Decree of the Head of State, Talgat Nurgozhin was appointed rector of the Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D.Asfendiyarov.

On July 13, 2017, by decree of the head of state, Talgat Nurgozhin was appointed rector of the Kazakh National Medical University named after S. D. Asfendiyarov.

Under Talgat Nurgozhin, KazNMU was awarded the status of a research university (Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated June 27, 2019 No. 453), the number of educational programs was significantly expanded, cooperation with leading international universities was strengthened, KazNMU itself gained unprecedented authority as an international-class university and recognition far beyond the borders of Kazakhstan. The geography of incoming students has been expanded to dozens of countries near and far abroad. Thanks to the partnership with the world’s leading universities, KazNMU students have the opportunity to study at two universities at once and become holders of two diplomas upon graduation.

In 2021, under Talgat Nurgozhin, KazNMU joined the elite ranking of world universities QS World University Ranking, taking the position #601-650. The university was ranked in the top 47 percent of the best in the QS World University Rankings. It is also worth emphasizing that KazNMU took 135th place in the QS EECA University Rankings 2021, which includes 400 higher education institutions from Europe and Central Asia.

In the same year, KazNMU took the first place in the rating of the Center for the Development of Education and Science of the RSE «Republican Center for Health Development» among medical universities, as well as the fifth place in the National Ranking of demand for universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan-2021 of the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR) among universities in Kazakhstan.

In November 2020, KazNMU again won the independent Science Leader award — Web of Science Awards in the nomination «Leader in the number of publications in journals» Q1 and Q2 quartiles of Web of Science Core Collection for 2018, 2019 and 2020 among medical universities in Kazakhstan.

KazNMU’s bachelor’s degree programs are recognized as the best in the country by the Independent Accreditation and Rating Agency (NAAR). The best master’s degree programs in the Republic of Kazakhstan are pharmacy, nursing, medicine, public health, preventive medicine; doctoral programs are pharmacy, medicine, public health.

The website of the Sanzhar Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University is consistently included in the TOP 5 of the global Webometrics ranking among Kazakhstani universities, and KazNMU has once again become an undisputed leader among the country’s medical universities. More than 24 thousand universities of the world take part in the ranking, the KazNMU website is included in 11% of the best websites in the world.

On behalf of Talgat Nurgozhin, a significant renovation of the university’s clinical bases took place, and well-known foreign specialists began conducting master classes on conducting unique operations. In 2019, a new ophthalmological center was opened in KazNMU, equipped with the most modern equipment for the treatment and diagnosis of the most complex diseases of the visual organs.

In the same year, the Department of Plastic Surgery was opened for the first time in Kazakhstan.

During the rectorship of Talgat Nurgozhin, the Simulation Center at KazNMU was completely renovated, new simulation centers in the field of dentistry and gynecology were opened.

The anatomical museum was updated at the university, major repairs were carried out and sets of educational and medical equipment for the Department of Anatomy were purchased. As a result, a unique anatomical simulation center has been created.

A significant renovation under Talgat Nurgozhin took place in the exterior of the main building of KazNMU. The campus area has become a place of attraction for citizens, the facade of the historical university building has been completely renovated, new paving stones have been laid. The latest equipment was delivered to university clinics. The University switched to a new digital format of financial activities, which made it possible to make the University’s earnings and expenses absolutely transparent, and salaries for teachers and other employees of KazNMU were increased.

Under the leadership of Talgat Nurgozhin, KazNMU in 2018 was the first to fulfill the instruction of the First President of the country, Nursultan Nazarbayev, on the construction of new dormitories. In the center of Almaty, KazNMU built a new dormitory with 800 comfort class beds at its own expense. The general housing fund of KazNMU has become one of the largest among universities in Kazakhstan.

For 90 years of its rich history, the main forge of Kazakhstani healthcare personnel — Sanzhar Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University has educated almost 100 thousand doctors of various specialties, high-level professionals who have made a significant contribution to the preservation of human life and health.
