On the 14th and 15th of April 2014 from 9:00 to 17:30 the School of pedagogical skills named after H.S.Nassybullina together with pro-administration of postgraduate education carries out ORPHEUS* Workshop by visiting-professor Zdravko Lackovic which is dedicated to the “Organization of PhD programs in biomedicine and health sciences”.
Place: Center of practical skills of KazNMU named after S.D.Asfendiyarov.
Professor Zdravko Lackovic, MD, PhD, is a founder and official president of ORPHEUS (Organization of PhD Programs in Biomedicine and Health Sciences), member of the Association of Medical Schools in Europe (AMSE), director of PhD programs in biomedicine and health sciences of Zagreb University Medical school, Croatia (ТОР 500 + QS WUR).
52 teachers and 36 PhD students will take part in workshop “Organization of PhD programs in biomedicine and health sciences”.
Workshop aim: preparation of the heads of PhD programs and experts in the field of development and assessment PhD programs in biomedicine and health sciences.
Workshop program includes: “Guidelines for Organization of PhD Programs in Biomedicine and Health Sciences” Zagreb, Croatia, 2005; ORPHEUS Consensus Document “Quality Indicators for PhD Training in Biomedicine and Health Sciences”, Izmir, 2011; “Best practice based principles for innovative doctoral training” and the importance of these ORPHEUS’ documents for Quality Assurance of the PhD education; ORPHEUS/AMSE/WFME Standards for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in Europe as a practical tool for quality assurance of PhD programs; Self-evaluation of PhD programs; International evaluation of PhD program/labeling according to ORPHEUS standards; The role of students in PhD training evaluation; Admission policy and criteria; The current experience in Kazakhstan PhD Education and discuss some issues concerning the quality and content of PhD programs in Biomedicine and Health Sciences at the national level.
It is planned during workshop to work in small groups and meeting between Professor Zdravko Lackovic and PhD students of the university.
Workshop outcomes:
— Assessment of PhD programs in biomedicine and health sciences at KazNMU and bring them in line with the ORPHEUS recommendations;
— Introduction of the best international practice in PhD education into KazNMU;
— Preparation of PhD programs in medicine and health care for the specialized accreditation;
— Implementation of the teaching program on preparation of the heads of PhD programs into the plan of the School of pedagogical skills named after H.S.Nassybullina;
— Entering of KazNMU in ORPHEUS as an institutional partner;
— Planning of KazNMU participation in ORPHEUS events.
*ORPHEUS was created in April 2004 by the European Conference on Harmonization of PhD programs in biomedicine and health sciences which was held in Zagreb with delegates from 25 universities in 16 European countries.
The aims of ORPHEUS are to promote harmonization of PhD programs in biomedicine and health sciences, to give active support and guidance to members of ORPHEUS in enhancing their contributions to medicine and society in general, to encourage mobility of PhD candidates and academic staff, to promote cooperation in research and development of joint PhD programs.
Since 2004 ORPHEUS held 8 conferences where each of them was dedicated to the actual issues of PhD education.
